“Oh, you have a Facebook page?”

If you’re pushing content on social media channels, you need to make sure people are finding your channels! Cute icon links on your website and in emails are a start, but you should also get comfortable inviting people (in real life) to visit, like, share, and subscribe or follow. When people interact with your profile and content on social media, it not only ensures that they see more of it, but that their connections (and generally everyone) see it more. This is the mysterious “algorithm”. But in short, more is more. That’s the first half.

The second half is answering the ever-present question: “what’s in it for me?” When it’s E&E (educational or entertaining) then there’s value and benefit to your audience. Asking them to watch, read and interact (especially in person) now makes sense: they want to see more, their connections are likely to be interested, and interactions are natural.

If your content is not E&E then it’s time to get back with your team to rethink your content strategy. You’ll know because you’ll feel embarrassed or extra uncomfortable asking people in person to visit your social media profile or channel. You’ll know because there isn’t really anything out there for them, you’re just hoping that they’ll do you a solid and help win the algorithm. That’s not enough, so…

Work on both: Invite and reward. Your brand _is_ how you introduce and deliver value, and that matters.
